The Symptoms That Tell of Cavities

Do you ever wonder which symptoms are involved with cavities? If so, you have come to the right blog. Our dentist, Drs. Sheldon Sullivan and Shawn Monahan, are happy to tell you all about the signs that indicate you have a cavity. That way you can identify the signs and seek treatment right away. The sooner you treat a cavity, the better. The symptoms involved with cavities are:

-A toothache that lasts more than two days (Pain in the tooth is a clear sign of a cavity)

-Tooth sensitivity and pain when biting or chewing with the tooth

-Pits on the surfaces of the tooth (A hole or indentation in the tooth enamel is usually a cavity. Some pits are only detected on dental X-rays)

-Pus around the tooth (This is an obvious and very serious sign of a cavity. It’s important to visit our office for treatment right away)

There are many culprits behind cavities. Some causes include poor oral hygiene, eating a lot of sugary and high-carbohydrate foods and drinks, dry mouth, plaque buildup and exposure to bacteria and acid. If you think you are a victim of tooth decay, it’s very important to seek treatment right away so the cavity doesn’t get worse.
