There’s a misconception out there that energy drinks and sports drinks are healthier than soda for your oral health. A recent study published in the journal, General Dentistry showed otherwise. The study showed that acid levels in these drinks can cause erosion and thinning of the enamel of your teeth, leaving them more susceptible to decay and sensitivity. This is irreversible damage to your teeth!
Why take any chances with your teeth? If you just can’t give up the drinks completely, at least try to reduce your consumption or dilute them and rinse with water after drinking. It’s recommended that you don’t brush immediately after drinking them though, as it can spread the acid around. The mouth takes about 30 minutes to bring the pH back to normal, so wait about an hour then brush.
